Afghan Ambush Fifty Taliban KilledKABUL: Clash between security forces and Taliban insurgents in Balablok district of Farah province in west Afghanistan have left 50 insurgents dead, military spokesman in the region Abdul Basir Ghori said.

The battle began after three US troops were killed in a complex ambush.

Afghan army spokesman Major Ghori said that coalition forces launched airstrikes in the western province of Farah.

He said the strike was in response to an attack on a convoy that killed three Americans and seven Afghan soldiers.

US military spokeswoman Captain Elizabeth Mathias confirmed fighting continued after the ambush.

Ghori said about 50 insurgents were killed. No other officials could immediately confirm that toll.

Afghan police spokesman Raouf Ahmadi said a coalition airstrike went astray and hit a home killing a woman and a teenage girl.
