India should share “any concrete evidence” of Pakistani links to the Mumbai terror attacks so that the two countries can resolve the issue “with seriousness,” opposition PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif said today.
India has not blamed Pakistan government for the attacks in Mumbai, Sharif told reporters after a meeting here with Indian High Commissioner Satyabrata Pal.
“I met the High Commissioner and he explained India’s position. He told me that they are not blaming Pakistan. They haven’t blamed the government of Pakistan or any Pakistani institution which is working under the government,” the former premier said.
“Therefore, they are trying to identify the culprits…I said if you have any concrete evidence against any Pakistani who is involved, please let us know.”
Both countries have to make efforts to resolve the issue “with seriousness”, Sharif remarked.
India has blamed Pakistan-based elements for the attacks and asked Pakistan government to act against them.
Sharif charged that the Indian media had acted in an irresponsible manner by playing up the attacks and blaming Pakistan, its government and its agencies. “This should not have happened,” he said.
The whole of Pakistan is united on national issues.
“Differences may be there, but when Pakistan’s security and integrity are concerned, we are one nation,” he said.
Sharif also criticised the PPP-led government’s functioning and policies, saying the PML-N and the people have reservations in this regard. He pointed out that the Charter of Democracy signed by him and slain former premier Benazir Bhutto in 2006 is yet to be implemented.
He also expressed concern at ethnic clashes in Karachi soon after the attacks in Mumbai. “This must be closely looked at to ascertain who is behind these acts.”
