The ATS has invoked the MCOCA against the Malegaon blast accused. 10 accused have been booked under MCOCA.
At a press conference ATS chief Hemant Karkare said “Investigation of the Malegaon blast case will remain with the ATS. So far our focus is only on the Malegaon probe. Maharashtra Control of Organised Crima Act (MCOCA) is a stringent law which allows accused to be kept behind bars without trial.
The ATS chief also added that collecting evidence through the course of the probe is a difficult process. He said “Collecting evidence ins slightly difficult. But so far whatever evidence we have has been thoroughly verified. There has been no political pressure of any kind on the team to dictate course of probe. “
Karkare added, “As far as the influence of the media in the case is concerned, we do keep a watch on the information provided by the media but we are not influnced in any way by it. We are only answerable to the court. Each member of my team is working as per the guidance of the law.”
Malegaon blast accused to challenge MCOCA before High Court
The accused in Malegaon blast case would move the Bombay High Court challenging invocation of Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act against them.
“We will move the High Court once we get a certified copy of order invoking MCOCA,” said Ganesh Sovani, the lawyer of Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, one of the ten arrested in the case.
Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad today invoked the stringent MCOCA against ten accused in the September 29 Malegaon blast case.
