Earlier, Australia was dismissed for 381 when Bollinger was the last man out.
Mike Hussey and tailender Peter Siddle shared a record-breaking 123-run partnership for the ninth wicket to give Australia fresh hope of victory.
Siddle was out for 38 soon after lunch with the score on 380. Bollinger followed his fellow paceman back to the pavilion after failing to trouble the scorers.
Hussey finished unbeaten on 134, while Siddle’s knock of 38 was his highest Test score.
The pair’s partnership beat the 83-run stand between Bob Massie and John Watkins for Australia’s ninth wicket against Pakistan in Sydney 37 years ago.
Pakistan started strongly in the chase, reaching 3/77 before Hauritz took two wickets in three balls, including a superb catch that may have saved his life.
The offspinner latched onto a Mohammed Yousuf missile, holding the catch despite the ball drawing blood.
He then dismissed Misbah-ul-Haq for a duck two balls later to put the Aussies in the box seat.
