With monsoon playing truant, Andhra Pradesh CM Y S Rajasekhara Reddy inaugurated a three-day ‘Mahavaruna Yagnam’ at in Hyderabad to appease Lord Varuna, the Rain god. The special ‘yagnam’, started amidst chanting of Vedic hymns by as many as 432 priests.
With monsoon playing truant, the authorities in Andhra Pradesh are invoking the rain God and organizing special prayers seeking bountiful rains and bumper crops.
Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy inaugurated a three-day ‘Mahavaruna Yagnam’ at the Exhibition ground here to appease Lord Varuna, the Rain god, organised by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD).
The special ‘yagnam’, started amidst chanting of Vedic hymns, was performed by as many as 432 priests.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister hoped that the Almighty would bless the state with copious rains and complimented the TTD for organising the special prayers.
The Ministers J Ratnakar Rao (Endowments), K Jana Reddy (Home), TTD chairman B Karunakar Reddy and Executive Officer K V Ramanachary were present on the occasion.
On Sunday last, thousands of Muslims had offered special prayers ‘Namaz-e-Istisqa’ here seeking rains.
