‘Ban on Pak players in int’l cricket continues’

A ban on Pakistan players connected to the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL) from playing international cricket continues, though they have won the legal battle to play domestic cricket at home, International Cricket Council indicated on Tuesday (February 17).

“There is a resolution agreed upon by all the members of the ICC not to promote unauthorised cricket. But, the local law takes its course and we cannot go against it,” said ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat at a media conference.

Lorgat was referring to the Sindh High Court’s decision to lift the domestic ban on Pakistani players, who had joined the Indian Cricket League, thus clearing them to play in local tournaments.

“I don’t want to speculate,” Lorgat added, when asked if the lifting of the ban, would lead to this players staking a claim to play for their country in the future.

The ICC official also said that while Sri Lanka, as an alternative venue for Pakistan to host the next Champions Trophy, is still the front runner for organising it this September – the world governing body for the game was studying the weather pattern in the emerald isle during this period.

Lorgat was on his way to announce a tie-up between the ICC and Yahoo India for the next three years.
