Barack Obama Reaches out to Turkey

ANKARA: Turkey President Barack Obama is beginning two days of events in Turkey, reaching out to the only Muslim member of NATO to help wind down the Iraq war and assist in Afghanistan.
Obama pledged in his inaugural he’d reach out to the Muslim world.
L’AQUILA, Italy (AP) Buildings have collapsed and at least 20 people have been killed in a powerful earthquake that struck before dawn in central Italy. Rescue crews are trying to reach trapped people. The quake was centered about 70 miles northeast of Rome.
TOKYO (AP) Japan is announcing new steps to boost its struggling economy. It’s pledging to spend more than $99 billion in response to the global slowdown that has sapped foreign sales of its cars and gadgets.
WHEELER, Texas (AP) A 15,000 acre wildfire near Wheeler in the Texas Panhandle has destroyed at least eight homes and is only 25 percent contained. It’s the largest of several fires being fanned by gusty winds across Texas.
UNDATED (AP) The major league baseball season is just starting and it already has its first postponement. The Chicago White Sox have called off today’s opener with the Kansas City Royals because of cold and snow in the Windy City.
