Bhutan , Bangladesh Seek Greater Regional Connectivity, Bhutan may sell power to Bangladesh in exchange for more imports, including fruit and vegetables, such as South Asian nations discuss trade and tourism as well as cooperation in the establishment of industries.
During the current visit to Bhutan by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Thimphu adopted its proposal for road connectivity across India.
“Once established this route, which could begin immediately Dhaka-Thimpu direct bus service. Obviously, this would contribute further to increasing people to people contact with the trade,” Hasina said at a function Status in Bhutan’s capital Saturday night.
He called for closer cooperation between Bangladesh and Bhutan, specifically the establishment of small and medium scale industries.
“We will be happy if we can establish overland communications with Bangladesh said Bhutanese Prime Minister Jigme Y. Thinley Hasina said when I met him.
Addressing the function banquet hosted by his counterpart in Bhutan at the Royal Banquet Hall, the visiting prime minister also stressed the need to join forces in power and energy sector, particularly in the generation of hydroelectric power, for mutual benefit.
The Prime Minister proposed that the electricity generated in Bhutan could be exported to neighboring countries, including Bangladesh.
“For such a regional network connectivity, our two countries can work together,” New Age newspaper quoted him as saying.
