Big day for Saina and Somdev

Today (January 9) is a big day for Indian sporting sensations — Somdev Devvarman and Saina Nehwal. While Somdev will play his Chennai Open quarterfinal tie against Croatia’s Ivo Carlovic, Saina will be in action the Malaysia Super Series quarters.
Somdev became the first Indian to make the quarter-finals at this event, since Leander Paes reached the semifinals in 1998.
This is also for the first time that Somdev has reached the last-eight stage of an ATP event and he will be up against big serving Karlovic, who outclassed Czech player Ivo Minar 6-1, 6-4 in his second round match.
Meanwhile, in the quarter-final, Saina will face Hongyan Pi of France whom she had defeated in the round-robin league of World Super Series Masters Finals last month.
Nehwal said, “I have defeated Pi here last month, so I don’t have to do anything different. She is a very good player and has defeated some quality players in the tournament but tomorrow is a different day and I will put my best foot forward.”
