After squarely blaming Congress for inflation and job losses, the BJP has said the number of Naxal attacks on polling booths indicated the failure of the ruling party in strengthening internal security of the country.
“The number of Maoists attacks in today’s voting is a pointer on what the real condition of internal security is in the country,” BJP general secretary Arun Jaitley told reporters at New Delhi on Thursday, blaming Congress for its “soft” approach on dealing with terror during the last five years.
Stating that Congress is “living in denial” on the real economic situation of the country, Jaitley said, “The most prosperous business groups are handing out pink slips. Salary cuts, job losses have become the order of the day. But the Congress is alluring voters with false promises.
“This is what the Prime Minister’s dream team has done for the country,” he lamented, terming the Manmohan Singh’s group as a “sham dream team”.
The BJP leader sought to know why food prices were increasing in a recessionary trend in the country particularly when global food prices were declining.
“When Advani invited the Prime Minister for a television debate on the issue, the latter shied away,” he claimed, adding that the choice of words by Congress leaders on BJP “reflects their frustration” in handling the prevailing situation.
The BJP general secretary also said the party will improve its position considerably especially in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand while commenting on the first phase polls on Thursday.
“There is a wave in favour of NDA in Bihar and also for our party in Jharkhand,” he said, adding that BJP also expects to do well in Maharashtra.
Welcoming the Supreme Court’s order of granting parole to Varun Gandhi, he said detaining leaders during elections was “against the democratic ethos”.
“Our party’s position is that if laws are misused in UP or in other states, it is against the interest of the nation and its democratic ethos,” he said.
The UP government’s move to detain Varun Gandhi was “vindictive” and “disproportionate”, Jaitley said.
