Computer Associates International next Tuesday will unveil five separate software bundles aimed at SMBs that combine the company’s antivirus and anti-spyware technology along with its data backup, restore functions, and advanced system migration technology. Aimed at accounts with 250 users or less the Protection Suites combine the company’s eTrust Antivirus, PestPatrol AntiSpyware, and BrightStor ARCServer Backup products. Dell Targets SMBs With First Dual Core Server

Dell underscored its technology commitment to smaller companies on Monday shipping its first server containing Intel’s dual-core processor that will enable them to run multiple applications significantly faster. The new PowerEdge SC430, which carries a $499 price tag for the entry level model, has approximately 50 per cent more storage capacity and 50 percent more high-speed PCI Express I/O slots than its immediate predecessor the PowerEdge SC420. IBM reports double-digit growth in the SMB market in 2004

IBM appears to be continuing to gain more share in the SMB market, recently reporting that its Software Group has won over 23,000 new accounts in 2004, which is triple the number they had in 2003. Earlier this week when it reported its revenues and earnings for this year’s second quarter, the company also reported that overall year-to-year SMB revenues grew at 12 per cent and that its SMB software offerings experienced double digit growth. SMBs with under $1 billion in revenues are spending between 53 and 60 per cent of their total IT budgets on infrastructure including data center, voice and data networks, desktop products, and help desk according to a report released this week by Gartner Consulting’s Worldwide IT Benchmark Service.
