Changes in the Union Council of Min

Some changes in the Union Council of Ministers are likely in the next few days as a sequel to the political fallout in the UPA coalition following the Mumbai terrror attack.
With Prime Minister Manmohan Singh taking over the Finance portfolio as well, there could be an addition of a minister of state in the ministry which already has two MoSs, government sources said tonight.
If a decision is taken to send either Union Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde or minister of state in the PMO Prithviraj Chavan as the next Chief Minister of Maharashtra, their slot also needed to be filled.
The two ministers are seen as strong contenders for the top job in Maharashtra following the offer of resignation by incumbent Vilasrao Deshmukh in the wake of Mumbai terror strikes.
Government could also go in for setting up of a Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in the next few days through an executive order and is also planning some other steps following the terror strike.
Key ally Samajwadi party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav had accused the ruling dispensation at the all party meeting yesterday of being weak in the fight against terror and had virtually issued an ultimatum “to do something concrete in the next fifteen days”.
