Chelsea Reportedly Bid Â£49m For Liverpool & Spain Striker Fernando Torres, torres transfer

Latest reports indicate that Chelsea have made an audacious bid for Liverpool and Spain striker Fernando Torres.

Chelsea, who finished runners-up to Manchester United in both the Premier League and the Champions League this season, are wanting to make an impact next season, and feel that Torres, who scored 33 goals in his debut season for Liverpool, would be the ideal candidate to take them to the next level in 2008/09.

An offer of Â£49million is almost double the original estimated Â£27milion fee paid by Liverpool to Atletico Madrid last summer, but Torres is adamant that he is happy at the club and has no thoughts on moving anywhere.

The 24-year-old moved to Anfield last summer in a club record deal from Atletico Madrid and went on to become the Reds highest goal-scorer for the season also setting new record for foreign striker in his debut Premiership campaign.

“I am enjoying my time at Liverpool, although I would prefer to forget the transfer talk for now and concentrate on Euro 2008, which is my primary concern at the moment,” Torres, who scored 33 goals including 24 in the league in the 2007-08 campaign, told Marca.

“I will go away on holiday once the tournament has finished and will then return to Liverpool.”
