Chief Justice of Pakistan, System can only become stronger with rule of law

Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry Chief Justice of Pakistan said on Saturday that the system can only become stronger when there is rule of law and supremacy of the Constitution in the country.
A press release issued here said that the Chief Justice was talking to the delegation of Tax Bar Association Lahore, headed by its President Ajmal Khan and other office bearers which called on him here in the Supreme Court Building Branch Registry, Lahore.
“Legal profession is a noble profession and there should be cooperation between Bench and Bar to facilitate litigants so as to provide them inexpensive and speedy justice at the door steps”, said the Chief Justice.
He added, “There is a big change in our society” and this change is due to lawyers’ community which played a vital role to bring the change.
Commenting on the issue of taxes CJ said, “Without tax and revenue collection affairs of state cannot run. Revenue is essential for any state.”
“Independent judiciary is hall mark of economic development. If there is an independent judiciary the foreign investors will come to invest to make our country prosperous,” he added.
The Cheif Justice said that Constitution is basic document and it should be followed in all affairs while quoting the phrase “Justice should be done let the heaven fall.”
Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry appreciated efforts and measures taken by members of the Tax Bar Association Lahore.
The members apprised the Chief Justice of issues and matters of judiciary relating to tax matters.
The members of the bar invited the Chief Justice to visit Pakistan Tax Bar, Lahore which he accepted and assured them to visit the bar soon.
