China wins 4 more golds to take tally to 39 on 10th day Beijing Olympic

BEIJING: The Beijing Olympic Games 2008 have completed their ten days and entered into the last week as 18 more gold medals were decided on Monday.

China dominated again on the tenth day by claiming four gold medals while the United States and Australia won three golds each and Kenya got two. Six countries – Russia, Great Britain, Netherlands, Poland, Belarus and Panama – obtained one gold medal each.

China is still tops the gold medals table with 39, followed by the United States with 22.

Great Britain continued its third position with 12 gold medals while Australia (11) snatched the fourth position from Germany (9).

The sixth position is shared by Russia, Japan and South Korea with eight gold medals each while Italy remained on its seventh position with six golds.

Ukraine also remained on the eighth position with five gold medals.

France and Romania got four gold medals each while Spain, Netherlands, Poland, and Slovakia won three golds each.

Ten countries obtained two gold medals each. They are Canada, Czech Republic, Ethiopia, Georgia, Jamaica, New Zealand, North Korea, Kenya, Switzerland and Denmark.

The countries winning only one gold medal each so far are 17 in number. They are Azerbaijan, Belarus, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cuba, Cameroon, Finland, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Norway, Panama, Slovenia, Thailand, Tunisia and Zimbabwe.

Overall, 72 countries have so far won 581 medals, including 185 gold, 186 silver and 210 bronze medals in ten days.

The United States with an aggregate of 72 medals – 22 gold, 24 silver and 26 bronze – is still the highest medal-winner at the Beijing Olympics, followed by China with 67 medals including 39 gold, 14 silver and 14 bronze.

The other highest medal-winners are Russia (36), Australia (33), France (28), Great Britain (27), South Korea (23), Germany (23) and Japan (20).
