Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray was today (February 17) declared an absconder by a local court for failing to appear before it for his alleged derogatory remarks against Biharis.
The court of Judicial Magistrate (II), Anil Kumar issued the notice under Section 82 Crpc (proclamation for person absconding) against Thackeray after he failed to appear in connection with the complaint lodged by lawyer, Sudhir Kumar Pappu in March 2007.
Pappu had filed the case against Thackeray for his alleged derogatory remarks against the Bihari community at a public meeting in Mumbai on March 9, 2007.
The petition prayed to the court for issue of a notice as well as attachment of Thackeray’s property.
The court, however, said if Thackeray failed to respond to the absconder notice, the court might issue direction for attachment of property under section 83 Crpc.
It set the next date on April 2.
The court had issued a non-bailable warrant against Thackeray on December 16 last year and directed the police commissioner, Mumbai to execute the order.
