CPM: RSS is building bomb factories

Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at 5:11 am

A political blame game has broken out in Kerala after over 150 crude bombs were discovered within three days in the communally sensitive of Kannur district. Now, the Kerala government caught on the backfoot has constituted a Special Investigating Team (SIT) to crack down on the deadly stockpiling of crude arms and ammunition.

Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Saturday (November 15) announced setting up of a SIT to carry out a detailed probe on those behind the stockpiling of deadly weapons in this politically sensitive district. A Special squad led by Thalassery Deputy Superintendent of Police K Prakashan would carry out the probe, state Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan told reporters.

SIT of the Kerala police has dig out more than twenty bombs in the restive Kannur district and it has become a steady stream now every raid yielding more and more of this deadly country made bombs. The latest police crackdown comes days after the death of two Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activists who were allegedly involved in bomb making. Discovery of huge stockpiles of bombs is now leading to a bitter war of words spreading well beyond the state.

Prakash Karat, General Secretary, Communist Party of Marxist (CPM), said, “The 125 bombs that were seized in Kannur which were manufactured by the men belonging to the RSS, these are the same people belonging to the same network who are operating in Maharashtra and other places as well.”

But Ram Madhav, spokesman, RSS, said, “This is part of the larger conspiracy to malign the RSS and its organisations by raising all such totally baseless and without any evidence… issues without any evidence. This is part of that larger conspiracy. I don’t attach any importance to it. We do not indulge in any such activity.”

But the rivalry between CPM and the RSS has often turned violent in Kannur. In 1999 a school teacher of Bharatiya Yuva Morcha was hacked to death by CPM activists. Earlier this year in March, a fight between RSS and CPM workers claimed three lives. The fight even reached Delhi where RSS and BJP activists targeted the CPM headquarters. Even the Pune office of CPM had come under attack.
