Jammu and Kashmir is tence once again, after a man committed suicide over the Amarnath Shrine Board controversy. The man identified as Kuldeep Kumar Dogra, had taken part in a hunger strike protesting land revocation to the Amarnath Shrine Board and had allegedly consumed poison.
Over 600 activists from the BJP, Shive Sena, VHP and Bajrang Dal clashed with police after the incident, which has forced the Jammu and Kashmir police to impose a curfew in the city. Several Hindu groups have been furious that the land temporarily alloted for the Amarnath piligrims was revoked.
Sangrash Samiti calls for Jammu bandh
Shri Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti (SASS), spearheading the agitation against revocation of order transferring land to the shrine board in Jammu province, has given a call for Jammu bandh today (July 24) over the alleged suicide by one of its activists on the issue.
Announcing this at a press conference on Wednesday (July 23) evening, SASS convenor Leela Karan Sharma said that the bandh including chakka jam will be observed throughout the province to “pay homage to the Samiti activist, who sacrificed his life for a noble cause.”
The SASS has been demanding removal of the Governor NN Vohra for surrendering the SASB to the Government and return of the forest land to the board.
