Welsh singer Duffy and American rock act ‘Kings of Leon’ dominated this year’s Brit awards while all time favourites Cold Play went home empty handed despite peaking expectations after their double Grammy win earlier this month.
While the 24-year-old Duffy took home three trophies including, Best British Female Singer, Best British Breakthrough Act and Best Album wins, rockers ‘Kings of Leon’ scooped two awards, picking up the Best International Group and International Album trophies, reported Contactmusic.
‘Elbow’ were named best British Group beating off competition from ‘Coldplay’, ‘Radiohead’, ‘Take That’ and ‘Girls Aloud’.
The popular girl band ‘Girls Aloud’ picked up their first Brit in seven years for Best British Single for their song ‘The Promise’.
Katy Perry beat Beyonce, Gabriella Cilmi, Pink and Santigold to collect the trophy for Best International Female Solo Artist, while Kanye West was named International Male Solo Artist of the year.
The show, hosted by Australian singer Kylie Minogue, saw performances by ‘Coldplay’, Duffy, ‘Girls Aloud’, ‘Kings Of Leon’ and ‘Take That’, while R&B singer Estelle joined the ‘Ting Tings’ for a medley of their 2008 hits.
