Fata members announced to support PPP candidate Asif Ali Zardari in the presidential election 2008 to be held on Saturday. This announcement was made by parliamentary leader of Fata members Munir Orakzai after a meeting with PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani.
“We are with the ruling coalition. We standby on our promise, which we made before formation of the government. We wholeheartedly announce to support Asif Ali Zardari,” Munir Orakzai, flanked by PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and JUI (F) Chief Maulana Fazalur Rehman, told newsmen here at PM House.
He said, “We will support Zardari in the presidential election and hope that under his leadership the difficulties being faced in (Fata) will be removed.”
PPP co-chairman and candidate for the office of president Asif Ali Zardari thanked Fata members for showing confidence in his leadership and assured that PPP will work for peace and strengthening the country.
Zardari mentioned the resolutions passed by Sindh, NWFP, Balochistan, AJK and Northern Areas assemblies in his favour and said “I congratulate the friends from Fata for their support.”
He assured that PPP by taking forward the policy of reconciliation adopted by Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto will strengthen Pakistan and establish peace in every nook and corner of the country.
Gilani thanked the parliamentarians from Fata for their support to Zardari, appreciating their political wisdom.
“I thank the Senators and MNAs from Fata as they by demonstrating their political wisdom have announced to support a federal party and Zardari, who is a symbol of federation,” he added.
Prime Minister said he was happy to note that members from Fata recognise the sovereignty of parliament, as they want that all decisions be taken by parliament and through dialogue.
JUI (F) Chief Maulana Fazalur Rehman said the decision of Fata members was as per his expectations.
He said there was an agreement among the coalition parties that foreign policy and the situation in Fata will be discussed in parliament, adding, it was an indication that government will review the policies of Pervez Musharraf.
Maulana Fazalur Rehman said the present situation requires a spirit of harmony and consensus among various political parties to take the country forward and achieve the goals.
