Flood victims stranded at railway stations

The railways are offering free rides for victims of the Bihar floods. While it may be a generous gesture, for those survivors who decide to avail the offer, it may well turn out to be a journey they should never have made.
People come to New Delhi Railway station, and go, but others have no place to go. Runa Devi and her five children have fled the Bihar floods. Now, platform number 10 is their new home.
Runa Devi reacting to the family being displaced due to the floods said, “We are farmers. Now, there is nothing until the water recedes. Until the dam is repaired and the water dries up, there is no hope for us. The government has given us this piece of paper and that’s all we have.”
The question is what kind of assistance will these families get with merely a piece of paper issued by the secretary of northern railways urging the general masses for humanitarian aid.
And so with that piece of paper tucked away, somewhere in their few belongings, they come desperate to start over again.
Everything has been destroyed and now all kinds of criminal activites are happening.
Runa Devi on means of livelihood ahead, said, “I will do something here. I will selll vegetables.”
In many cases people were stuck on roof tops for over six to seven days. So, all Runa Devi can do is wait patiently and count the days before she can head home.
For now, there’s little to do and have to just sit around and wait.
