Govt. Borrowings of July-March Surge By 14 Percent

KARACHI: Government borrowings during current fiscal year July-March increased by 14 percent, while the business loans were seen up by 1.7 percent only.
State bank of Pakistan released figures showed that the total government loans during July 2008 to March 2009 surging by 14 percent surpassed Rs1886 billion, while the government’s borrowings from the State Bank increasing by seven percent stood at Rs1095 billion and from commercial banks soaring 27 percent reached Rs591 billion. Loans to the private sector for business purposes up by 1.7 percent stood at Rs2601 billion.
