Govt to Enquire ?Frequent’ Deaths in Lalded Hospital

Srinagar: Concerned over the deaths allegedly due to negligence of doctors in Lalded hospital here, the Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered an inquiry into all deaths since January this year. An official spokesman said taking cognizance of a report about the alleged frequent deaths taking place in Lalded hospital Srinagar, the government has constituted a committee to enquire into the reasons leading to death of patients since January, 2008. The committee will also ascertain as to whether there was any negligence on the part of functionaries of the hospital. The committee, to be headed by Professor and Head Of Department (HOD), Gynae and Obsts, Dr Shahida Mir, will have Professor and HOD Surgery, Dr Muneer Khan and Professor and HOD, Medicine, Dr M A Kamili as its members. The Medical Superintendent, Lalded Hospital Srinagar shall provide all logistic support to the committee in conducting the enquiry. The Committee shall also suggest measures to be taken by the government in further improving the patient care in the hospital. The committee shall submit its report to the government within a period of 20 days, he said.
