Hangu Cleared As Forces Kill 20 Militants

PESHAWAR :The security forces have cleared the restive Hangu of miscreants after killing 20 militants including five at Tora Warai fort Saturday night and capturing another 60 so far during the ongoing operation in the north-western district of NWFP, Director General ISPR, Major General Athar Abbas said on Sunday.
“At least 20 militants have been killed and 60 others captured so far in the operation as the troops had managed to push militants out of the district and were now targeting them in the mountains on the north of Hangu district,” he told APP.
To a question that whether the security forces will withdraw after the end of operation in Hangu, the Military spokesman said that presence of troops in Hangu district depends upon the decision of the administration.
The security forces were moved to restive Hangu district after Pro-Taliban militants open indiscriminate firing on FC peace convey near Zargari that killed about 22 people including 17 paramilitary soldiers. Meanwhile, ISPR statement said that at least five militants were killed, 20 reportedly injured and six of their vehicles were destroyed during fierce fighting between FC and militants last night at Tora Warai Fort near Doaba in Hangu district.
About 100-120 militants attacked Tora Warai Fort, sometime after midnight. The FC soldiers repulsed the attack and valiantly defended the Fort offering stiff resistance to the attackers for three to four hours. There were 29 FC soldiers in the Fort at the time of attack.
Meanwhile, the FC officer asked army for reinforcement. Army immediately dispatched the reinforcements. Army troops engaged the militants and destroyed six vehicles of the fleeing militants. Reportedly 20 militants were also injured in the engagement.
Security Forces have reinforced Tora Warai Fort. Locals of the areas are also helping security forces in fighting the militants who had come from the area outside the District, it added.
