Hizb Activist, Soldier Killed

Srinagar, May 26, KONS: A Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militant and a soldier were killed in separate gun battles between troops and the militants in different parts of the state since Sunday evening. Acting on a tip-off, the troops of the 18 RR sealed of the Rangwar forests in Lalpora, Lolab area of Kupwara district on Monday morning, reports said. As the troops were moving in for the operation, they came under heavy fire from militants, leading to injuries to one soldier, who later passed away. The identity of the soldier was not available.A military operation to search for militants suspected to be present in the area is underway. Meanwhile, a Hizb militant was killed in a joint operation by the police and the 10 RR in a Doda village today. The slain militant was identified as Kifayatullah of Marmat, Doda. The police said that he was a section commander of the Hizb and had been wanted by the forces for a long time.
