Hurriyat leader Shabir Ahmad Shah was picked up on Friday (August 29) by the security forces from Srinagar, official sources said. Shah, who went underground soon after the police and security forces swooped on separatist leaders ahead of their proposed march to Lal Chowk on Sunday (August 31), was taken into custody from Rawalpora area, the sources said.
He is the sixth separatist leader to have been arrested. While Chairmen of both the factions of Hurriyat, Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Umer Farooq were arrested on Sunday, JKLF leader Mohammad Yaseen Malik was arrested on Monday when he defied curfew and tried to march to Lal Chowk.
The sources said security forces are looking for two others — Masrat Alam, spokesman of the Coordination Committee of the separatists and Nayeem Ahmed Khan of moderate Hurriyat Conference.
Curfew remains clamped in the Kashmir Valley
Meanwhile, curfew remained clamped in the Kashmir Valley for the sixth consecutive day on Friday (August 29) without any relaxation. The curfew, which was imposed in all the 10 districts of the Kashmir Valley in the wee hours of Sunday to stall a march by separatists in Srinagar, was in place without relaxation, official sources said.
