India’s “indecision” about participating in the Iran-Pakistan-India gas is impeding progress in the venture, Pakistani Law Minister Farooq Naek said today (Oct 24).
Speaking in the Senate or upper house of parliament, Naek said Pakistan is fully committed to the project, which is expected to meet a substantial portion of the country’s energy needs.
Replying to a query during question hour, he said two obstacles have impeded progress in the IPI project. These include “Iran’s decision to renegotiate gas sales and Indian indecision on participating in the project,” Naek said.
Expressing the hope that the project would be finalised soon, he said it would take five years to complete. Naek told the Senate that Iran and Pakistan have decided to establish a joint finance company through a public-private partnership to raise funds for the project.
