IRCON, which is constructing the railway line in Banihal, had carried out the blast to clear heavy rocks, but had taken the action without prior warning to the local population. Angered by the destruction, locals gathered in front of the police station, shouting slogans against the railway company. They said that IRCON officials gave no prior information and used explosives in such large quantities that the blast damaged houses.
