With Pervez Musharraf no longer at the helm of affairs in Pakistan, experts in New Delhi say that the army of the neighbouring would use its spy agency ISI to continue its corporate policy of “strategic depth in Afghanistan and bleeding India.”
Former Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan G Parthasarathi cautioned that the Paksitan army would try to use the “fluid political” situation the country and said he did not believe that ISI is operating independently.
“I believe that the Army would use ISI to continue its corporate policy of strategic depth in neighbouring Afghanistan and bleeding India,” he said in a discussion on “Pakistan After Musharraf” here organised by Observer Research Foundation.
Former Foreign Secretary M K Rasgotra said India should conduct itself in a way to provide support and confidence to the neighbouring country as stability and democracy there was also in its best interest.
“We should not do anything which would make Pakistan feel threatened,” said Rasgotra, President of Observer Research Foundation Centre for Political Relations.
Retired vice-admiral KK Nayyar said the present coalition, whose main purpose is to remove Musharraf from the Presidency, would collapse soon because of their “conflicting interests”.
