Islamabad Capable of Countering Internal Challenges: US, Recognizing Pakistan’s recent anti-Taliban actions, the US said it had confidence in Islamabad’s ability to take on the challenge.
US State Department spokesman Ian Kelly in a daily briefing stressed that Islamabad itself was taking the militancy challenge very seriously. “We have seen a real commitment in recent months on part of the Pakistani authorities, which are really trying to tackle the problem of violent extremists within their border,” he added. Kelly maintained that US was ready to stand with Islamabad, both militarily and on the civilian side.
“I think we do have confidence. I think, we certainly have more confidence now that we did, even a few months ago, before they took decisive action to deal with the Taliban within their own borders,” the spokesman replied when asked if Islamabad was capable of handling the new flow of terrorists from Afghanistan.
