Kashmir issue cannot be ignored Hussain Abdullah HaroonKARACHI: Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to UN, Hussain Abdullah Haroon has said the issue of Kashmir can never be ignored and Pakistan has once again sent a resolution to the UN in this regard.

He said this while addressing a press conference here at his residence on Thursday.

Hussain Haroon said UN investigation into the assassination of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto will commence during the current year and UN Secretary General has shown his consent in this regard.

He said the UN Inquiry Commission will have experts from various countries and in this regard Pakistan will not be consulted.

Addressing a press conference at his residence on Thursday, Hussain Haroon described President Asif Zardari’s visit to US successful but said it will not be appropriate to term his visit as official visit to US. His first official visit will be to China.

He said if the President had gone to Washington, then it would have been an official visit.

Reiterating that President’s visit to New York was success, Pakistan’s Permanent UN Representative said that he in his meeting with US President made it clear that it was his meeting with an elected President as in the past their meetings used to take place with non-elected Presidents.

Hussain Haroon described President’s meetings with friends of Pakistan as most fruitful on the sidelines of General Assembly session. He said these meetings were named as “Friends of Pakistan” but friendly countries insisted that it should be named as “Friends of Democratic Pakistan”.

In these meetings, he said, a lot was discussed about Pakistan’s security and Afghan President Hamid Karzai addressed President Asif Ali Zardari as “Bhaijan” (elder brother).

He said the friendly countries assured the President of all assistance while Pakistan made it clear to them that we have not come with a begging bowl but their assistance will help bring stability to Pakistan.

To a question Hussain Haroon that when he reached New York, no significance headway had been made in relation to inquiry commission into assassination of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.

However, he held successful talks with the UN Secretary General and he has submitted a report thereof to Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He said that for the purpose investigation a joint fund of UN and Pakistan will be established.

To a question about terrorism, Hussain Haroon said that blasts incidents in Pakistan were three times more as compared to Afghanistan.

He said Pakistan has demanded one Force for Pak-Afghan border under the command of General Kayani.
