NEW DELHI: Landslide kills 39 in Southern India, An official says a landslide triggered by torrential seasonal rains in a hilly region in southern India has killed at least 39 people over the past two days.
The official says the landslide demolished nearly 300 tin-roofed mud huts in Ooty and Coonoor region of Tamil Nadu state. The area is nearly 1,120 miles (1,800 kilometers) south of New Delhi.
The state flood control official said that rescuers found 14 bodies in the debris on Monday and another 25 on Tuesday.
