LeT claims responsibility for J&K encounter

Just hours after the five-day long encounter between Armed forces and militants ended in Jammu and Kashmir’s Handwara district, the Lashkar-e-Toiba has claimed responsibility for the encounter.
LeT leader Dr Abdullah Gaznivi calling newspapers and claimed reponsibility saying LeT laid an ambush and killed 25 Indian soldiers. He also said that LeT lost 10 men. In addition he also threatened India of more such attacks.
In total 17 militants were killed in the encounter, six of them on the final day 8 army personnel including a major died in the fierce gunbattle which began on March 20 on higher reaches of the Shamsabari range in Harfada forest.
Reacting to the encounter while Speaking at a security review meeting attended by Defence Chiefs earlier, Defence Minister AK Antony conveyed his rising concern over the situation. Antony directed the army to deal with the situation with ‘utmost firmness’. He emphasised that the recent incidents in the border state highlighted the nature of threat the country faced from terrorists.
