The Colorado Rockies eventually beat the San Diego Padres 2-1 in the 22nd inning Thursday, after the longest game in Major League Baseball for 15 years.
Troy Tulowitzki hit an RBI double with two outs in the top of the 22nd, and San Diego could find no response, ending the 6-hour, 16-minute
National League marathon at 1:21 am.
It was the longest game since 1993, when Minnesota beat Cleveland 5-4 in 22 innings. It was also the longest game in Rockies history.
Tulowitzki doubled to left-center off Glendon Rusch _ the seventh Padres pitcher of the game. Colorado had eight.
The game was scoreless until the 14th.
Reds 9, Cubs 2
In Chicago, Ken Griffey Jr. hit his 596th career homer as Cincinatti ended its five-game losing streak by beating Chicago.
Joey Votto doubled with the bases loaded, homered and drove in five runs for the Reds.
Reds manager Dusty Baker beat the team he managed from 2003-06.
Phillies 10, Astros 2
In Philadelphia, Brett Myers allowed just one run in seven innings, steering Philadelphia past Houston.
Phillies catcher Chris Coste tied a career high with four hits, as the team tied a season high with 16 hits.
Brewers 5, Cardinals 3
In St. Louis, Prince Fielder hit his first home run of the season in the tenth inning to lift Milwaukee over St. Louis.
Fielder, who led the NL with 50 homers last year, needed 54 at-bats to connect for the first time this year. He also tied the score with an RBI double that capped a three-run, eighth-inning rally.
Braves 8, Marlins 0
In Miami, John Smoltz pitched five shutout innings and struck out 10 to lead Atlanta over Florida.
Chipper Jones went 4-for-4 with two homers and three RBIs for the Braves.
Atlanta hit five homers, including three in the space of 12 pitches with two outs in the fifth inning.
Smoltz lowered his season ERA to 0.56 and improved to 3-0 in three starts, while the rest of the Braves staff is 3-9.
Mets 3, Nationals 2, 14 innings
In New York, Damion Easley scored on a wild pitch in the 14th inning to give New York victory over Washington.
Easley led off the 14th with a single to left. He advanced to second on a wild pitch with one out and reached third when Nationals pitcher Joel Hanrahan committed a throwing error trying to pick him off at second.
After getting one out, Hanrahan intentionally walked two batters to load the bases. Hanrahan then bounced his first pitch to the next batter and Easley raced home with the winning run.
