Premier air cargo firm Deccan Express Logistics, which plans to handle majority of cargo from the 100 acre multi-modal airport hub at Nagpur to all parts of the country, has received approvals for its aircraft hangar designs from Multimodal International Hub Airport (MIHAN).
“This will be just the beginning of the various investments Deccan Express Logistics (DEL) plans to make in building up its infrastructure. Our world class Express Cargo Hub will handle majority of the cargo moving on the DEL network, thereby controlling the distribution of shipments across the country,” company CMD Capt G R Gopinath said on receiving the approvals.
Gopinath, who had earlier launched the first low-cost model airline in India – Air Deccan said this would also be a global hub connecting the major economies of Asia Pacific, Middle East and Europe via India. The firm, which received approvals for the structural design of its aircraft hangars at Nagpur’s MIHAN, is creating the Express Cargo Hub in Nagpur.
The hub, which is expected to become operational later this year, would be the first of its kind in India and form the core of DEL’s air and ground distribution network owing to its strategic central location. It would be spread across a 100 acre campus at the Nagpur Airport. The MoU for the deal has already been finalised by DEL and Maharashtra Airport Development Company Ltd.
“With this initiative, the common man will have access to a wider range of products in the market, better jobs and a higher standard of living. This will certainly have a positive impact to the developmental efforts for Nagpur, the region of Vidharbha and overall for the state of Maharashtra, besides benefiting the country as a whole,” Gopinath said.
DEL, in addition, has also signed an MoU with the GMR Group for setting up similar Express Cargo Hubs in Delhi and Hyderabad airports, which are being developed by the G M Rao-owned company. The setting up of infrastructure at these strategic locations would enable DEL to establish an extensive modern multimodal storage, transportation and delivery network bringing connectivity to every corner of the country, the DEL CMD said.
The hubs at Nagpur, Delhi and Hyderabad would function as a distribution model facilitating an effective consolidation and dispatch to destinations in the metros as well as the interiors, a company spokesperson said.
