ISLAMABAD, Pakistan News: The Supreme Court has asked concerned authorities to submit details of Pakistani handed over to US during Musharraf tenure and detained Pakistanis in foreign countries and said verdict of missing persons case will be announced within two weeks.
Earlier, Attorney General (AG) Anwar Mansoor informed the court that 1600 persons have so far been missing while at least 300 went missing in 2006-07, reported.
The three-member bench of Supreme Court of Pakistan headed by Justice Javed Iqbal heard the case of missing persons today.
During the hearing, AG Mansoor presented before the court the Interior Ministry’s document comprising list and details of the persons missing across the country.
The document shows that number of missing persons is 1600 from which 300 went missing in 2006-07.
On the occasion, he proposed the court to constitute a commission of retired judges of the apex court on missing persons. He said efforts are underway to locate Masood Janjua.
In his remarks, head of the bench Justice Iqbal observed that the commission could prove worthless as intelligence agencies were not cooperating for the recovery of missing persons and were creating problems in the issue.
He also termed the performance of administration unsatisfactory, saying “Police is scarified and no one dares to accept the responsibility.”
The court observed that hearing of the missing persons’ case will regularly be conducted twice a week, on Wednesday and Thursday.
