NASA celebrates its 50th anniversary

The National Aeronautics and Space Agency or NASA celebrated its 50th anniversary. The agency was created to develop non-military space operations for the United States. Pioneer 1 was the first official NASA mission to be launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida.
The National Aeronautics and Space Agency, more commonly known as NASA, turned 50 on Tuesday (July 29). The agency, which was created to develop non-military space operations for the United States, was formed in 1958 by an act of Congress and signed into law by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Pioneer 1 was the first official NASA mission to be launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida. Since that day on October 11, 1958, the agency has sent hundreds of rockets into Earth orbit, to the moon and beyond.
