New Governor of State Bank of Pakistan Saleem Raza: Gilani KARACHI: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has appointed senior banker Syed Saleem Raza as the new Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, the prime minister house sources said.

The central bank governor Dr Shamshad Akhtar has decided to step down from Jan. 1, 2009, on completion of her three-year term, a spokesman of the bank earlier said.

Shamshad Akhtar took over as central bank governor on Jan. 2, 2006.
