Oscar hope Rahman ‘on top of the world’

It’s official – after its golden run at the Golden Globe Awards, Slumdog Millionaire has bagged 10 nominations at the Oscars. Our own Mozzart from Madras, A R Rahman, has three of those perfect 10 to his credit. We caught up with the music maestro who was, in his own words, ‘on top of the world.’

From the music composer to the music, here’s a look at the three tracks from the film that are reigning in all the accolades for Rahman and his music.

‘Jai Ho’ by Sukhwinder Singh, is one of the two songs that have won A R Rahman three oscar nominations for Slumdog Millionaire. The Boyle movie closes with this energetic number.

Also, the pulsating ‘Saaya’ that opens the film, has also been nominated in the same category. They both compete with Peter Gabriel’s composition in WALL E.

Composed in 20 days flat, A R Rahman’s Slumdog score takes on Hollywood biggies like James Newton Howard & Danny Elfman.

But with the kind of global acceptance the film’s music has got him, Rahman stands a strong chance of a win. We keep our fingers crossed.
