The balls are over, the trophies have been taken home but some moments from the 81st Oscar will be remembered for the comic relief they provided amongst the teary acceptances and political speeches.

“Slumdog Millionaire” director Danny Boyle skipped the emotional part, choosing instead to hop on stage while receiving his first Oscar.

The 53-year-old director explained his funny action by saying that he had once promised his kids that if he ever won the award he will recede into the spirit of the comic character ‘Tigger’ from “Winnie the Pooh”.

“My kids are too old to remember this now, but when they were much younger, I swore to them that if this miracle ever happened that I would recede into the character of Tigger from Winnie the Pooh,” he said while clutching the golden trophy.

The ceremony was revamped this year after last year saw a unprecedented slump in the TRP’s for the telecast ceremony, with song and dance routines predominating the ceremony.

Host Hugh Jackman was joined on stage by ‘Best Actress’ nominee Anne Hathaway in the first performance of the evening which poked fun at the nominated films.

Jackman later duetted with Beyonce and was joined on stage by Zac Effron and Vanessa Hudgens of “High School Musical” and Dominic Cooper and Amanda Seyfried from “Mama Mia!”.

Funnyman Ben Stiller got the entire crowd rolling with his parody of Joaquin Phoenix’s bizarre transformation from Academy winning actor to bearded rapper.

Stiller, who came on stage to present the best cinematography award sporting a bushy fake beard and shades loudly chewed gum and when his co presenter actress Natalie Portman asked him to stop, he promptly took it out and stuck it on the podium, like Phoenix who had done so while on David Letterman’s Show.

“I just want to retire from being the funny guy,” Stiller mumbled, as the audience guffawed. “You look like you work at a Hasidic meth lab,” said Portman.

Another presenter duo who were a hit with the Hollywood crowd were Steve Martin and Tina Fey.

Actress Kate Winslet also drew cheers from the crowd as she asked her dad to whistle so that she could spot him in the crowd and was promptly answered by her father who winked as the cameras panned to him.

James Franco and Seth Rogen spoofed ‘Best Film’ nominees while Philipe Petit’s drew laughs for his impromptu acts.

Tight rope walker Petit who was called on stage after “Man on Wire”, his biographical documentary won the Oscar, grabbed the golden statuette from director James Marsh’s hand and perched it on his chin.

He then took out a golden coin and made it disappear in thin air.
