It’s not just Bihar, but the north-eastern state of Assam too is grappling with severe floods. Over 2 lakh people have been displaced by the tragedy and official reports say 16 people have died in the deluge.
The situation has worsened with Brahamaputra and its tributaries breaching more embankments. One person drowned on Thursday (Sep 4) in the worst-affected Majuli island.
The situation in Lakhimpur district of Assam has also deteriorated with the Dikrong river breaching an embankment while an embankment of the Brahmaputra was in a vulnerable condition at Bohori in Barpeta district.
The embankment of the Pahumara river in Barpeta district was made vulnerable to breaches due to continuous erosion. Meanwhile, the Army is assisting the government in providing relief to the affected people across the state.
