Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday said that Pakistan would not bow down to international pressure being exerted on his country, in the wake of Mumbai terror attacks. “If India wants to build world pressure on Pakistan, it is on mistake,” Zardari said at a dinner hosted for foreign envoys at the Presidential Palace.
He also expressed concern that “prevailing Indo-Pak tensions could sabotage efforts being made for bringing stability and peace in the region.”
“Pakistan will take strict action against anyone or any group found guilty in the terror attacks on Mumbai. We want the issue to be resolved peacefully through bilateral dialogue,” Zardari maintained.
He further asked the international community to come forward and defuse tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad.
“The international community should take stock of the challenges being faced by Islamabad and the ground realities,” Zardari was quoted as saying by the A Pakistan News.
He also renewed the Pakistani government’s stance that “no compromise could be made with terrorists”.
The envoys of India, the US, China, Britain, Russia and France were among those who attended the dinner besides Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani. Federal ministers, secretaries and senior officials were also present on the occasion.
Zaradri also met Indian High Commissioner Satya Pal Sharma and held talks on the regional situation.
Zardari had recently hosted a dinner for the envoys of Muslim nations and Saturday’s dinner was hosted for envoys of other countries.
