The tainted father of the Islamic bomb is in the news again, and this time AQ Khan stands accused of nothing less than being a partner in crime trying to sell nuclear weapons technology to Osama Bin Laden.
According to a book titled “The Man from Pakistan” written by Douglas Frantz and Catherine Collins, two of AQ Khan’s close associates offered to sell nuclear weapon technology to Osama Bin Laden.
Chaudiri Abdul Majeed and Sultan Bashiruddin Mahmood apparently made a trip to Kandahar where they discussed the sale of crucial weapons technology to the Al Qaeeda head.
According to the book, the meeting ended inconclusively after Osama Bin Laden was forced to flee to the mountains in north west Afghanistan.
The best selling book released on November 12, infact paints a grim picture of how far the deal actually went. Both scientists opened offices in Kabul after which they held direct negotiations with Mullah Omar and Osama for the sale of nuclear weapons. The conversation between the scientists and the dreaded Al Qaeed leader shifted from relief work for Afghan civilians to the development of nuclear weapons.
