Pakistan, Afghan, Turkey Summit Begins TodayANKARA: Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and Afghan President Hamid Karzai have reached Turkey to attend the Turkey-Afghanistan-Pakistan tripartite summit slated for today (Friday), reported A Pakistan News.

Zardari will also hold separate talks with his Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai and Turkish President Abdullah Gul in Istanbul today to advance ties and boost cooperation between the countries.

The summit, which would be hosted by Gul, aims to contribute to the region’s stability and development by consolidating the solidarity between the three countries, said Turkish Presidential Office in a statement on Wednesday.

According to the report, senior diplomats from the three countries met on Thursday in Istanbul as part of preparatory efforts.

Meanwhile, business people from all three countries also convened in Istanbul to discuss broader cooperation including joint projects.

The upcoming talk between leaders of Afghanistan and Pakistan is the second round sponsored by Turkey in an effort to bring the two troubled neighbors closer.

On April 29, 2007, Afghan President Karzai and then Pakistani President General (retd) Pervez Musharraf held fence-mending talks in Turkish capital of Ankara and pledged to step up joint efforts against the Taliban.

Meanwhile, U.S. President George W. Bush telephoned Turkish President and discussed the agenda of tripartite summit, says White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe.

Bush tanked his Turkish counterpart for his efforts to resolve disputes among Pakistan and Afghanistan and cooperation towards bettering Iraq situation.
