Pakistan Hit Again As Canada T20 Event Postponed
KARACHIĀ  :Pakistan’s cricket drought worsened on Wednesday after next month’s four-nation Twenty20 event in Canada was postponed due to the unavailability of the West Indies team, an official said.

Pakistan are short on international cricket after Australia postponed their tour of their country over security fears in March this year, while key teams could yet boycott September’s Champions Trophy in Pakistan.

“We have received an email from the organisers informing us that the (Canada) tournament has been postponed and now it may be held in October,” Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) director of operations Zakir Khan said.

The reason was the unavailability of the West Indies team, he said.

Pakistan, the West Indies, Bangladesh and Canada were all due to compete in the event to be held from August 14-17.

The postponement leaves Pakistan with only a three-match home series against New Zealand and the eight-nation Champions Trophy, which they host, to play for the remainder of the year.

Both events are however subject to security clearance.

Australia were due to play three Tests, five one-day internationals and a Twenty20 international. However, they agreed to reschedule the tour into two visits — five one-day internationals in 2009 and three Tests in 2010.

The Australian tour postponement left Pakistan with no five-day Tests to play for the rest of 2008 and their next Test series is against India at home early next year.

Pakistan’s next tour is to Sri Lanka, where they play three Tests in July 2009.

Efforts by the PCB to lure India, Sri Lanka and South Africa for short tours have all fallen through.

Since a tour of India last year, Pakistan have only featured in low-profile home series against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh, and featured in a three-nation event in Bangladesh and the six-nation Asia Cup — all one-day matches.
