With floods wrecking havoc in North Bihar, jailed RJD MP from Madhepura Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav has threatened to go on an indefinite hunger strike if the government failed to arrange relief to the victims within 48 hours.
In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh yesterday, Yadav gave an ultimatum to the government till August 29 to arrange food, shelter and safety for the flood victims in Saharsa, Supaul, Madhepura, Araria and Purnea.
“I will not have any food and water from August 30 if people of these districts do not get full meal and are not evacuated to safer places,” he said in the letter.
Yadav demanded special packages for the districts, compensation of Rs five lakh and job to the dependents of each of those who lost their lives and waiver of all loans of affected people for at least five years besides declaring all the five districts as national calamity-hit area.
Yadav charged the Bihar government with not showing interest in the repair of the dam despite the central government’s directive earlier. Yadav is currently lodged in Tihar jail in a murder case.
