In a new development owners of MT Stolt Valor say the pirates who hijacked the ship are using ‘terror tactics’ on the sailors onboard. Even as Seema Goyal, wife of the Capt of hijacked ship MT Stolt Valor takes her appeals to the government, some worrying news has been released by the owners of the vessel.
A press statement released by the owners of MT Stolt Valor - states, “During yesterday’s communication, the Stolt Valor’s Captain was also able to communicate, possibly without the pirate’s knowledge, that the pirates are using tactics such as controlling which crew members can and cannot call home and by telling the crew members what they must say, to include an exaggeration of the hardships on board, to cause the families more worry and stress in what is already a difficult time for them. Some terrorism experts have said the Somali hijackers are now using ‘terror tactics’ against these families and that this practice is becoming more common as more and more vessels are hijacked.”
MT Stolt Valor, carrying 24,000 tonnes consignment of oil products, was hijacked on September 16 in the Gulf of Aden near the Somali coast. According to reports, it is currently anchored at a port on the eastern coast of Somalia.
