PM Manmohan to Meet Chinese PM Tomorrow, The Thai resort serene beach here is expected to provide an ideal setting for the meeting tomorrow between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh
and his Chinese counterpart Wen Jiabao at lower temperatures in recent weeks built on the border and other issues.
Singh’s meeting, Wen on the sidelines of the ASEAN and East Asia Summit takes place in the context of the war of words between the two neighbors over Arunachal Pradesh.
China considers Arunachal as a disputed territory and opposed the Prime Minister’s visit to the northeastern state to the Assembly elections, prompting strong reaction from India, which said the state is an integral part of the country.
“All matters of mutual interest”, will feed into the meeting, a senior foreign ministry said.
New Delhi has been an exception to China visas to residents of Jammu and Kashmir, in single sheets, raising suspicion that Beijing does not view the state as part of India.
Beijing, moreover, is unhappy about India making its strict visa regime for expatriates, involving Chinese workers in most business visas.
India has given a deadline of Oct. 31 to move the business visas to work visas failing that expatriates will have to leave the country.
