President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani made separate phone calls to world leaders on current regional situation in the wake of the Mumbai attacks. President Asif Ali Zardari called French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Afghan President Hamid Karzai and discussed with them the regional situation and bilateral matters. The French President also expressed his support to democracy in Pakistan. British Foreign Secretary David Miliband also called President Asif Ali Zardari on telephone Sunday evening. “Situation in the region and bilateral matters came under discussion during the calls,” spokesman of the President said. Prime Minister of Czech Republic Mirk Keplonic and German Chancellor Angela Markel telephoned Prime Minister Gilani and exchanged views on the evolving regional situation. While extending his full support to Pakistan in its efforts for peace and tranquility in the region the Prime Minister of Czech Republic Mirk Keplonic assured that his government will avail all diplomatic channels to normalize relations between India and Pakistan.

Mirk Keplonic appreciated Pakistan’s efforts for curbing terrorism and extremism. He said the regional peace was vital for peace and progress of the world and any kind of disturbance in this region would damage the efforts of curtailing trend of terrorism. The Prime Minster thanked his Czech counterpart for his support. German Chancellor Angela Markel also made a phone call to Premier Gilani. The two leaders discussed the current regional situation.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan telephoned Prime Minister Gilani Sunday night and assured Turkey’s full support in helping normalize relations between India and Pakistan. Erdogan said Pakistan being a frontline state against terrorism has suffered a lot and lost its great leader. He said Turkey would play its due role to bring peace and normalization in the region which has been disturbed due to Bombay incidents.
