ISLAMABAD:The Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Wednesday held meeting with Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, leader PPP (Sherpao) at his residence to seek his faction’s support for Asif Ali Zardari in the upcoming presidential election.
Talking to media personnel after the meeting Gilani said the country’s president should be the symbol of federation, adding the nomination of Asif Ali Zardari as presidential candidate was made on the same principle.
Gilani said PPP Sherpao faction had similar views as Pakistan Peoples Party on the issues of sovereignty of parliament, democracy and political stability.
Regarding PPP’s position in Balochistan assembly on presidential election, the prime minister said the provincial government enjoyed complete support of all political parties in the House.
He said the nation would soon hear a “good news about Balochistan”. Aftab Sherpao said his party would take a decision at a meeting later in the day to develop a consensus on its stance about favouring the PPP presidential candidate.
When asked about his opinion on judges issue, he said he fully supported their reinstatement. On military operation in tribal areas, Sherpao said it resulted in the displacement of nearly 0.4 million locals, instead of 0.25 million as being claimed.
